COSMETIC ACUPUNCTURE

Cosmetic Acupuncture (aka facial rejuvenation) is the process of inserting thin needles into certain parts of the face to improve circulation, brighten and hydrate the skin, and diminish wrinkles.  This works first by relaxing the facial expression muscles, which when chronically tense or uneven, cause creases in the face to appear and deepen over time.  These creases develop across all areas of the face to make smile lines, crow’s feet, marionette lines (from the corner of the mouth down to the chin) as well as creases between the eyebrows, along the forehead, and those surrounding the lips. The next step is to target each visible crease by lining them with short intradermal needles, causing a minute trauma to the skin.  The body’s natural response to these “traumas” is to stimulate the production of collagen and elastin at the insertion site.  These proteins will visibly fill in the wrinkles, restructuring the skin cells to their full, original form and allowing the tissues to resume their natural shape after years of stretching and sagging.  They also function to hydrate the area to reduce creepiness and dullness of the complexion, as well as allowing redness and sunspots to fade.  Facial cupping and “Gua Sha”, a light scraping of the skin done by a dull, organic tool work to bring color and vibrancy to the face while further softening deep creases and fine lines.  An electro micro-current can be added to points on the face and body to increase muscle tone and overall effects of the treatment.

Facial rejuvenation is superior to other cosmetic procedures in that it beautifies from the inside out.  Your acupuncturist can determine and correct your body’s individual imbalances to slow, and in most cases, reverse signs of aging while reducing stress and pain in the body and increasing overall vitality.  Exercise, diet, and lifestyle will also be addressed and individually tailored to meet your wellness goals.  Prescription of herbal remedies to nourish the body and mind are also available.

What to keep in mind:

Cosmetic and Traditional Acupuncture, while rare, can cause slight bruising or mild irritation on the skin.  Please inform us if you are prone to bruising or taking blood thinners. If you have a nickel allergy, notify us so we may use an alternative type of needle.

Patients are strongly advised to refrain from drinking alcohol at least 12 hours before receiving a cosmetic acupuncture treatment, as this can increase the chances of bruising or temporary discoloration of the skin.

As with any skin-care regimen, long-term commitment is required.  Packages can be sold in a series of 10 treatments, 2 per week for 5 weeks and semi-monthly treatments to follow for maintenance of appearance and overall well-being.  If you have any other health concerns, make sure to notify us so we can modify your treatment plan accordingly. All the treatments include body acupuncture.
